I'm not sure if the kernel version currently used supports simplefb. I'll check the config file from my build later on, You may need to make kernel_menuconfig and enable simple fb. My working scenarios have always been booting from sdcard and logging with the uart. Then I was able to set up the network connections and eventually my wireless device. I've not had the need to go much further than that. wingrime on irc is the guy upstreaming the sunxi patches for openwrt. See if he's online.
