Do you get gibberish after inserting SD card while running system booted from nand? Or do you insert the card, reboot, and then get gibberish? Either way, you can try checking with a multimeter that the RX and TX pins of the serial port do not connect to the SD slot. Some tablets use SD uart with extra pads ..
