I'm happy to say that the tape deck in the external case is recognized
by the ftape drivers when attached to the floppy interface!

You might add this info to your readme or a faq:

If you have an HP T1000e parallel tape drive, and the performance is
just not there, or your wondering why you spent the extra money for an
external drive that you never take any where, it takes ten minutes to
dismantle the T1000e, and make it a T100.

To open the T1000e case, the gray strip on the right side needs to be
slid forward about a quarter inch. It is latched at the front and
back. At the front, the strip needs to be pushed out from the tape slot
about 1/8 inch, and held while a thin screw driver is inserted in a
very small hole in the seam of the off-white cases. It will then slide
forward a short amount, and the case should fall open.

The power connector for the tape deck is the standard for floppy
devices. Pin one of the ribbon connector is AWAY from the power
connector. There are no markings that I could see to identify pin one,
except the square solder pad at pin one.

The tape deck mounts with the circuit board up. There is no integral
shielding, since the unit was intended for the external case. I
positioned the tape deck between my floppy and a cdrom, so it has close
shielding to absorb any emf radiation. My radio and TV do not show any
adverse affects.
