I hope someone can give me a clue to my ftape problem.
I am running linux on an old 486 box with an internal colorado HP tape drive attached
to a fd-20 tape drive card - works fine with win3.1. So far have had no luck with
linux.

Linux ver 2.0.36 patched with ver 2 patch from ftape 4.02 and recompiled

ftape 4.02 compiled with CONFIG set to enable fd-20 card

when booting there is a message FDC 0 8272A

when a tape operation ie tar is tried on /dev/qft0 there is a message
QIC-117 driver ...QIC-3010 QIC-3020 etc
installing QIC -117
ftape-init @x0100b1 ...

then a message
tar cannot open /dev/qft0
operation not supported by device

dev/qft0 is defined as
crw------- root root 27 0

I don't know where to look or what to try next any help will be appreciated
