I just verified that my Seagate QBackup version works with
dosemu-0.98.... under v2.2 as well as under v2.0.36. So, in case you
are interested to have your drive supported under Linux you should try
to run the DOS driver with dosemu and produce an IO-port trace log.

As your time permits, of course.

The current state of ftape + Conner/Seagate tape drives is:

- in principle Seagate drives should be supported when they use
Micro-Solutions "BackPack" protocol. This is labelled

  "PPT Device (MicroSolutions), PPT"

in my version of the QBackup software

  "PPT Device (MicroSolutions), PPT (shuttle)"

  is not supported, AFAIK.

- it seems that Seagate drives are not working with ftape. Why?

- I believe that ftape has some problems with the initialization of
the parport drive. Therefore it should suffice to produce an IO-port
trace log of QBackup when tries to identify/initialize the tape
  drive.

This is best done (I think) when trying to configure QBackup
manually, selecting either "Conner, PPT" or "PPT Device
(MicroSolutions), PPT" in the "Manufacturer" menu in the configure screen.

Cheers

Claus
