Perry,

Did it work?  If it did, could you please explain what you did in a little
more detail?  I don't understand the compiling process well enough to
understand what to do.  Thank you.

I've worked at the 3-17 release of ftape-tools and resolved the
problems!

The first problem I detected was that the doc/etc directory was nt
provided with a Makefile.in

Using automake, I was able to get past this problem.

The next thing was that _all_ of the Makefile's in the doc tree had
SHELL=@SHELL@ rather than SHELL=/bin/sh

After fixing thin in the vrious subdirectories of doc, the tools made
succesfully.

Now I can try to format a tape!!
