Hiya - I'm setting up a file server (Redhat 5.2) with a Seagate STD224000N
12/24 Gb DDS-3 DAT drive to be used as a backup media. So far I have
managed to get the drive to work ok and have run a few backups. The problem
I am trying to tackle though is how to get DDS-DC to be enabled - I have
all the jumpers as set in the manual - but the drive just refuses to write
any more than 12Gb to my 125 Metre tapes.

According to the manual:

"If switch S6 is on, DDS pass-through is enabled (data compression is disabled)

Note - The function of the S6 switch can be overridden by the proper SCSI
MODE SELECT command issued from the host computer"

now - as I said I have S6 set to off - so DDS pass through is disabled,
DDS-DC is enalbed, but the tape still wont go beyond 12Gb.

So I guessed that somewhere a "disable DDS-DC" command is being sent -
although I have not been able to track down how to change this.

I have been using bru, tar and mt to contorl the tape drive.

I have a technical manual from Seagate - "DAT Tape Drives and Autoloaders
SCSI Manual" in pdf format which mentions the MODE SELECT command - but
unfortuantely I'm getting a bit out of my depth here and don't know how to
use this.

Help!

Thanks in advance, Dan.
