Tim - thanks, trying that out now - my brutab did have the tape specified
as a 12Gb volume - I'm still a little confused as to why I could't get
past the 12Gb barrier when using tar though - I had not specified any
archive size options there and yet the backup still bombed out at around
11.8Gb...

I do like BRU - a lot, just that we've only just recently upgraded our
file server (well - added a newer fasterone actually) and only have
BRU 2000 PE which doesn't allow us to do NFS backups - and we can't afford
the $300 upgrade fee just as yet... so was hoping to be able to get around
this by using tar for now...
