I have been unable to sign up for this mailing list for
reasons unknown, so if someone has an answer to this, please
email the answer to me as well as the list.
I have just installed Red Hat Linux 6.0. Previously I ran
3.04d ftape package successfully with Red Hat 5.0 on this
machine.
I have a Conner (Seagate) 1700 MB Internal Minicartridge
Drive on a Conner (Seagate) CTC-2Mb 2Mb Floppy Controller.
The controller is at I/O Address = 370h - 377h, DMA Channel
= 2, Interrupt Request Level (IRQ) = 6 (this is the default
and has not been changed).
According to the documentation for the 4.02 version of
ftape, "You don't need to install this version of ftape if
you are running linux version v.\w.w or higher as ftaoe-4.02
is already included in the kernel source tree. ..."
I looked at the ftape modules in the system and there were
only the following: ftape.o, zftape.o, and zft-compressor.o.
Since ftape-internal.o (which I assume I need), and
trakkker.o [sic] and bpck-fdc.o (which I assume I do not
need) were missing, I tried to rebuild the 4.02 package.
This failed because member `timeout' is missing from some
structure.
Pressing on regardless, I made what I thought to be suitable
entries in /etc/conf.modules and tried to run ftmt -f
/dev/ftape status. It tried running the internal floppy disk
drive and complained that the device was not configured
(true, of course). I examined /var/log/messages and found
that the driver modules belonged to version 3.04d. I then
revised /etc/conf.modules to look (in part) as follows:
# Load ftape/zftape automatically
alias char-major-27 zftape
pre-install ftape /sbin/swapout 32
# Try to set CTC-2Mb floppy controller
# and
# Try to reduce overruns: can be [1-16]: higher: less
overruns
options ftape ft-fdc-base0x370 ft-fdc-irq=6 ft_fdc_dma=2
ft-fdc-threshold=16
# Try harder to reduce overruns: can be [1000, 500, 250]:
lower: less overruns
#options ftape ft_fdc_rate_limit=250
It seems to ignore this completely, and still tries to run
the floppy disk drive.
I then decided to try building the 3.04d version of ftape,
but this build fails for the same reason,
1.) What do I do now? I have filed a trouble report with Red
Hat over three days ago, but they have made no suggestions.
2.) I tried to sign up for this mailing list, but get no
response from the mailing list.
2a.) I tried to sign up again for this mailing list
yesterday, but get no response from that either. I tried to
sign up as follows:

I never get a response.

Windows is not the answer. Windows is the question. The answer is no.
