Your response helped me find the problem with the /etc/conf.modules file: I had
ft-fdc-base instead of ft_fdc_base in there. 8-( After many hours work, they looked
the same to tired eyes.

I had to produce a /usr/src/linux/.config file to get the ftape ftape-4.x-1999_04_25
to compile, since I had never installed the kernel source, and the kernel source rpm
does not include the .config file used to build my kernel.

I find Red Hat's customer service has improved greatly over the last year. Still not
ideal, but better than that large software vendor of binary-only operating systems.

I am using Netscape 4.51 (full strength security version) for my e-mail. I do no
masquerading. Since my sign-up is now working, I conjecture that the sign-up daemon
was either broken, or that the list is maintained by an overworked individual person
who finally got to it. It took about 5 days for the sign-up to work.
