I am currently using this drive (I assume you mean the one that uses TR4
tapes) with success; have used it for about 3 months, probably.
Absolutely nothing tricky about it, so far. Haven't tried anything
cute, like continuation tapes, yet. (Who would willingly do that,
anyway, on tapes this size?) I bought the OEM or "white box" model,
w/no manuals, cable, or anything, for about $100. Seems a bargain, but
of course you'll pay plenty for the tapes. Got it through
www.techstore.com. Have also bought 3-packs of 3M tapes through them
for (IIRC) about $100, and they always turn out to have a bonus tape,
making 4.
Someone in the group wrote that Aiwa is getting out of this business,
