Wolfgang Weisselberg <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> obviously speaks
with deep knowledge, and has been discussing matters, with Tim Jones.

I ask, please, both their indulgences, if I may re-post their insights of
Wolfgang Weisselberg & Tim Jones :-

If you can afford it, junk/sell the 2GB (it's not really worth
it, *I*'d say) and go for a DAT I or even for the "OnStream
DI30" ($229, tapes at $34, capacity is 30GB/2 with the GB =
1000(!) MB and so on, ca. 13.9 "real" GB)[3]. Just be sure to
compare prices and factor in your ease of use (changing media/
using the CD-RW for other things).

[1] DAT II drives will want FastSCSI or SCSI2 or whatever,
do ask(!), and that will mean a somewhat more capable
controller. My DAT I is happy on an IDE "ZIP ZOOM"[2].
[2] the one distributed with SCSI-Zip-drives (100MB), basically
a aha1505 controler, works fine with the aha152x module
[3] Data comes from Tim Jones, he's from BRU (commerial backup
system, very Linux-friendly, and he has used them, seeing
up to 26 GB on a tape (with BRU) and 1MB/sec (compressed,
      I guess). I'd trust his recommendation. >>
