I'm using the 20000124 patchset to 2.2.14

I put a blank tape in the drive and do 'mt status' and get
ide-tape: ht0: failed to find valid ADRL header

so I do 'mt erase'. This succeeds, hopefull the right thing to do.

I run amlabel to the label the tape. This suceeds.

mt rewind; mt tell says it's at block 0. Ok.

I can read the label off the tape with no problem.

I run a small backup and after finished, if I do mt rewind; mt tell
it says I'm at block 11. seeking to block 0 fails.

I also get the following kinds of message in the kernel logs:

ide-tape: warning revision 2.2 detected (1.1/1.2 supported)
ide-tape: invalide header identification string
ide-tape: couldn't seek to logical block 0 (at 11), 1 retries

During backup I got messages like:
ide-tape: expected to find marker at addr 46
also 21, 44, 66, 79 at various times with various tapes.

Any ideas?

Allen
