As nobody replied on my blinking led problem post to this list, here is
the bug report. I really hope someone is going to fix this in both the
3.x and 4.x series of the ftape driver. The 3.x series is in the 2.2
kernel series, and I hate having to be forced to hand-build ftape
drivers because the current drivers are to _new_.

In the 2.0.x kernel series, I used my T3000 tapedrive without any
problems. When I switched to the 2.2 kernels, things broke. I thought
this was due to hardware errors, dirty tape heads, or my own mistakes,
especially since no one mentioned any problems with this drive on any
website or in the FAQ.

However...

As I now figured out, the problem isn't my tapedrives but the ftape
driver. Both the 3.x series and the 4.x series don't work, while the
2.08 series work without any problems at all.

The problem is as follows:

When I put a tape in the drive for the first time, things are just fine.
I can tar to the drive, test the tar files, restore, (re)wind the tapes.

But when I pull the tape out of the drive, the led starts blinking and
the tapedrive doesn't work anymore. I put a tape in the drive, and it
doesn't start winding it as it normally does. I do mt status and this is
wat I get:

... The last two lines repeat until I ^C the mt command

Rebooting doesn't help anything, the only way to get rid of the blinking
led is to turn the power off.

I really hope this is fixed soon,

Wouter
