I have a Ditto Max (non-PRO) in a RH6.0+Updates system (kernel 2.2.5) and
the verdict is ~~~. The cartridges are proprietary format=you can't
reformat them with ftape (you know that from all the ftape docs). It works
only with the latest (unstable) driver. I don't know about transfer rate,
(could somebody enlighten me, how they determine transfer rate/shoeshining
or not etc.) but it generally takes about an hour for a Gig of files. I
can currently live with that but haven't really bothered to tweak it to
its best. I did have a problem with some of the cartrdiges acting up (not
able to do even a status on the drive! but that might have been just bad
media. This is where ability to re-format might have been useful??!
Would I recommend it...only if the price is really right ;-). I got mine
as an open box for about 25% off and the cartridges were 1/2 off. so
decided to give it a try. The SCSI/IDE options were at least twice as
much.
