i use zyxel uno modem (usb 56k cdc-acm modem, i think it present only on russian market). after two or more hours of connection this modem can hang-up - all leds are on and modem don't respond. i need do power off to reset modem.
Sounds like a firmware bug. Can you get updated firmware?
And the oops may be fixed in 2.6.5-mm, there are a lot of USB patches queued. I suspect that since Linus is now back, they'll end up in his patches soonish.
question - it's possible do software turn power off/on on usb device?
Yes, but not (safely) with the current Linux APIs.
The good news is that it looks like 2.6.6 will have almost all the infrastructure needed to start really fixing the problems with the usb_reset_device() call.
