no david. as i said
i checked /var/log and there is no
trace of my debug messages. What I want to
know is am I debugging the function (usbnet_probe())
that is producing the above message.?

If this is the case as I hope you can confirm then 
prehaps my changes are not getting compiled in
properly 
or I am mis-using the debug statements.
dmesg is no different to the one I first sent you.

Check in "dmesg" output instead.
/etc/syslog.conf configures where most
messages go; kern.debug should be useful.
