Hi Guilhem,
... By the way, do you have the original freebox, or a newer one?
I have the original one.
the reason I asked is that I'd like to know if the newer freebox also suffers from this problem with string descriptors. Do you know anyone who has a more recent one?
Yes. But the person uses it with the RJ45 port. I'll see if I can try to make him plug on the USB port.
BTW, I notice that sometimes I have to restart my computer (Dell Dimension 4500 with USB 1 and 2 support) to be able to connect the device.
I have a different problem: sometimes if I start my machine with the freebox plugged in, then it hangs at the POST, i.e. before even trying to boot the OS.
I had also another major issues. When I compile the Kernel with module removable support, and I try to remove usb-uhci I used to have some kernel panic and if I have the freebox connected it seems to hang somewhere and prevents the computer from booting (even before the master boot). The solution is to unplug the freebox (electrically and from the USB port) let the system boot and plug everything back. :/
On another issue, my freebox spontaneously disconnects itself after a while (half an hour is typical) - have you seen anything like that?
Here everything seems normal.
Regards,
Guilhem.
