I hope this is not a FAQ, but I haven't seen it anywhere.

I have done some more testing, and what I have found is this:
-Not all CDs hang. I have tried 3, and 2 of them hang, one doesn't. One
that hangs is a FreeBSD 4.2 CD. This CD works fine in all my other drives
under linux, and in all my drives in windows.
-If the CD hangs when I try to read it, I just have to reboot, and after
the reboot I get the "Type: <NULL> ANSI SCSI Revision: ffffffff"
problem. The operating system does not hang, only the CD and the
 processes trying to use it.
-Powering off the PC/CD-RW does not solve the "Type: <NULL>..." problem
-Booting to windows and using the CD-RW (just reading) does not solve the
"Type: <NULL>..." problem, but the drive works fine in windows.
-Burning a CD in windows solves the "Type: <NULL>..." problem :)

It may be of little help that burning a cd in win fixes my drive, but I
mentioned it in case someone else gets the same problem and thinks their
drive is bust. I thought that for a while =) Now I only hope someone
knows how to fix this so I don't have to keep burning CDs to use the CDROM
under linux ;)
