What happens if you do;

cat /etc/fstab >/dev/usblp0

? I don't think you have this probelm (you look like you are using Prot=2) 
but some HP printers required the HP tools from sf.net (I can't remember 
the actual URL and need to head to a meeting right now, you can probably 
find it in the archive of this mailing list if you can't find it on 
sf.net).
