Hi Stephen, Actually, the scanner is not plugged into an external hub. It is plugged directly into the USB port on the motherboard, and is the only USB device connected to the system. And this, in fact, could be the problem - the system may be accidentally configured to use an external USB hub. When I run 'usbview' I see one of the following:
> > ****** When it WORKS ****** > > > > - USB UCHI ROOT Hub > > | | > > | |__ hub > > | | > > | |__ usbscanner > > | > > |_USB UCHI ROOT Hub > > > > > > ****** When it DOESN'T WORK ****** > > > > - USB UCHI ROOT Hub > > | | > > | |__ hub > > | > > |_USB UCHI ROOT Hub > > What does this mean? A assume that: "USB UCHI ROOT Hub" refers to one of the two USB ports on the motherboard. "hub" refers to an external hub that the system 'thinks' is connected to one of the motherboard USB ports. Is this correct? I'm not sure about this. If so, that could be the problem. So, how do I tell the system that I don't have an external hub? Incidentally, when you expand the "hub" entry, it reads: hub Speed: 12Mb/s (full) Number of Ports: 4 USB Version: 1.10 Device Class: 09(hub ) Device Subclass: 00 Device Protocol: 00 Maximum Default Endpoint Size: 8 Number of Configurations: 1 Vendor Id: 0424 Product Id: 0140 Revision Number: 0.00 Config Number: 1 Number of Interfaces: 1 Attributes: e0 MaxPower Needed: 100mA Interface Number: 0 Name: hub Alternate Number: 0 Class: 09(hub ) Sub Class: 0 Protocol: 0 Number of Endpoints: 1 Endpoint Address: 81 Direction: in Attribute: 3 Type: Int. Max Packet Size: 1 Interval: 255ms Here, the Vendor Id: 0424 Product Id: 0140, is some 'Standard Microsystems' product. Could this be an external hub? Thanks for the help. Much appreciated. John.
