Newbie here at least as far as usb is concerned, so bare with me, thanks in advance. Bought new mob MSI845eMax, with P4, 1.8, reinstalled suse 8.0 pro. Cannot get my scanner working, a epson640U. This is what i tried so far: after booting this is what dmesg delivers usb.c: registered new driver usbdevfs usb.c: registered new driver hub usb.c: registered new driver usbscanner scanner.c: 0.4.6:USB Scanner Driver usb-uhci.c: $Revision: 1.275 $ time 14:22:01 Mar 27 2002 usb-uhci.c: High bandwidth mode enabled PCI: Setting latency timer of device 00:1d.0 to 64 usb-uhci.c: USB UHCI at I/O 0xdc00, IRQ 5 usb-uhci.c: Detected 2 ports usb.c: new USB bus registered, assigned bus number 1 hub.c: USB hub found hub.c: 2 ports detected usb-uhci.c: v1.275:USB Universal Host Controller Interface driver So it gets detected allright, when issuing lsmod i get: scanner 8480 0 (unused) usbcore 55136 1 [usb-uhci scanner]
Now the trouble starts cat /proc/bus/usb/devices T: Bus=01 Lev=00 Prnt=00 Port=00 Cnt=00 Dev#= 1 Spd=12 MxCh= 2 B: Alloc= 0/900 us ( 0%), #Int= 0, #Iso= 0 D: Ver= 1.00 Cls=09(hub ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS= 8 #Cfgs= 1 P: Vendor=0000 ProdID=0000 Rev= 0.00 S: Product=USB UHCI Root Hub S: SerialNumber=dc00 C:* #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=40 MxPwr= 0mA I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 1 Cls=09(hub ) Sub=00 Prot=00 Driver=hub E: Ad=81(I) Atr=03(Int.) MxPS= 8 Ivl=255ms With p and s i gather my scanner is not recognized. modprobe scanner vendor=0x04b8 product=0x010c doesnot help. I have this line in boot.local en modules.conf adapted. The output of this command looks right to me: ls -la /dev/usbscanner crw------- 1 walter users 180, 48 mrt 23 2002 /dev/usbscanner I am at a los, is it a hardware problem, o, ja the scanner is plugged in.
