Greetings, I'm disheartened to hear that you've had no responce... ain't this THE place for linux USB stuff? or did they migrate?
Well I just wrote my own problem report with usb-storage... and now have some timings... 30 second timeouts for aborts that never seem to have any effect... and basically a perpetual cycle of attemp, test, wait (30 ) reset (wait 6 seconds) etc... I could forward this log - it's probably pretty easy to reproduce... but then again - maybe someone could tell me if it's a> the usb in the centrino chipset, the usb in this external drive enclosure, some design flaw, etc.... But failing any of this - I guess it's time to become expert on something new.
