Oh, sorry about that.  I'm running 2.4.20-20.9.  Basically, it's a
stock Red Hat 9 system.

It seems I might have to wait to use lsscsi.

I did, and, by gum, did it spit out gobs of info.  What's pertinent
is:

Using some of the tools included in RH9.  It would seem that I don't
really have any SCSI devices registerd.  For exmple the
/proc/scsi/scsi file looks like:

That was interesting. 'cdrecord -scanbus' completely froze on my
system.  I had to close the terminal window to get rid of it.
Evidentally, I'm treading new ground :-|

So, it would seem that the kickstarting of this SCSI subsytem isn't
really working for me.  

'Scuse my ignorance, but "sr_mode and sg"?
