Hello. What are those? Please note that I cannot install anything to the MS Windows 2000, not add any hardware. MSW2000 at public library has even Notepad disabled, and PDF files cannot be read by clicking a file in a directory (PDF files on Internet can be read, though). A USB flash disk works. USB hard disk works. If those Nic cards are USB devices, they might not work if MSW2000 has no driver for them or if the driver is disabled. I don't need this solution for now, but if I would only have a laptop, I would be in a trouble. But I dislike when limited hardware makes good ideas void. I was also suggested some kind of special cable or a connector box which would do something. I have no idea what cable or box it would be. The good thing is that if a box can fake up being a USB disk (even it would not have a disk), the Linux can be programmed freely to provide the (virtual) disk. I simply don't understand why Linux cannot be programmed to fake an USB disk. Is USB designed so that the cable and the hardware has to be reversed if one reverses the connection direction? That is, a computer should have both in and out USB ports, and the cable must be switched from port to port. How sad. Why USB is limited that way? Does that limit possible USB applications? What USB chips are used inside USB disk devices? What USB chips are used inside computers? If they are different kind of chips, then I understand the problem. But if they are of the same kind, then it would be only a matter of reprogramming the (Linux) driver for the chip.
