In case you care why this works I'll offer the following.[...]
this can be very slow, so compact causes the separate read requests to be
combined into one when the sectors are adjacent to each other on the disk.

Yes I read the man "read many sectors with one call..." but I wanted to understand
- why this slowness was not the case with internal hd (maybe USB makes it even slower)
- more about coompatibility of "compact" with "lba32" before trying
Anyway I tried both options "lba32" and "compact" togethere (in spite of the warnings they might have been uncompatible with each other), and it worked:
- it took about 2 or 3 seconds
- (strange) it displayed no progressive "Loading..............." not even the "Loading"
- I find it very strange since in >2 seconda I must have been able to see the print very well
Anyway... it works.
