Note I didn't say it was a webcam. Its a digital zoom 3.2 megapixel normal digital + zoom lens camera I paid over $500 USD for 2 years ago. Thanks to its ubiticus(sp) usb connector, and the usb libraries, its a normal vfat file system I can mount just as if it was a small M$ (shudder) hard drive whose capacity is whatever smartcard I've got plugged into it at the time. No, a webcam it ain't, by about 2+ pounds hanging on my neck. The part that you aren't getting is that A: That was apparently a pretty good webcam, and B: It was (till Nemosoft got something? caught crossways over losing his hook into kernel space for the binaries whose srcs are not GPL'd) the ONLY webcam with linux drivers, and now we are, as they say in Vegas, shit out of luck. The pissing match then got rapidly out of hand because of what the majority of the users feel was an arbitrary 'take out the kernel space binary hook' which in turn required some re-writing on Nemosofts part in order to work around it entirely in user space. Nemosoft refused to do it, and instead pulled the code totally after some pretty hard insults vis-a-vis the parallel commercial developement aspects of the code were traded back and forth in the heat of the argument. Now, does that clarify the situation sufficiently? Sorry about the language, my half-a$$ed apologies to the list, but thats how it seems to this old fart. There weren't any voices for soothing sanity in the middle of that dogfight, it was over and done with before most of us realised the fight was on, all in the space of maybe 2 hours.
