Greg's FAQ about why the pwc driver was removed: http://lwn.net/Articles/99639/ The driver returned, but without the proprietary stuff: http://lwn.net/Articles/100303/ There has been talk of reverse-engineering the pwcx code. There's also been some disagreement over whether the sensor in the camera actually has 640x480 pixels, or if the proprietary driver was just scaling/interpolating them from a smaller grid.
