You have two different problems. One is that the drive got disconnected about 3 seconds after it was plugged in: > These are the messages I get, when I plug it into the USB2.0 controller: > Mar 30 20:55:04 charon kernel: hub 5-0:1.0: state 5 ports 4 chg 0000 evt > 0010 > Mar 30 20:55:04 charon kernel: ehci_hcd 0000:00:0c.2: GetStatus port 4 > status 001803 POWER sig=j CSC CONNECT > Mar 30 20:55:04 charon kernel: hub 5-0:1.0: port 4, status 0501, change > 0001, 480 Mb/s > Mar 30 20:55:04 charon kernel: usb 5-4: USB disconnect, address 7 Maybe you did that, or maybe it indicates some sort of hardware issue (bad cable?) It didn't matter though, because a few seconds later everything worked out okay. > Mar 30 20:55:13 charon kernel: usb-storage: Command READ_10 (10 bytes) > Mar 30 20:55:13 charon kernel: > usb-storage: 28 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 40 00 > This seems to reat endlessly, after trying to mount it: Looks like some program is constantly trying to read the disk. Maybe it's the haldaemon program, maybe it's something else (what's hwscan?). It could be interfering with your use of the drive. You could try turning off haldaemon and see what happens.
