The critical difference is that the keyboard and mouse are plugged 
directly into your computer, whereas the key is plugged into the TetraHub.

My guess is that the TetraHub doesn't work correctly if a device is 
plugged into it at the time the hub is activated.  You could try doing 
this experiment, after booting:

        Unplug the hub.  Plug the key into the hub.  Plug the hub
        back into the computer.  Does the key then work?

In any case, I would expect the key to work better if you plugged it 
directly into the computer instead of into the hub.
