right, I see that.  

I'm not sure what's generating this plug-in event.  could it be that the
initramfs in which the resume process is taking place is simultaneously
waking up the usb system and initiating resume, in such a way that the
state of one of the usb devices is consistently
miswritten/misread/something?  

I've snipped a bit more of the log below -- it shows that the "new
device detected" event happens during resume, not suspend.  Not sure if
htat helps.
