I tried querying this on the alt.os.linux.slackware NG but got no assistance
and this strikes me as a likely place to find answers. Sorry if it's out of
place.

I have an IBM T23 laptop which has a no-name PCMCIA USB2 card providing four
USB ports. lspci shows the card to be using the Via VT82xxx chipset and gives
the revision number of the USB 2.0 part to be 63. Devices are detected by the
system and report to be connecting at High-Speed. I have recompiled the kernel
using modules for the USB drivers and removing all but EHCI and this has no
effect so it's not a driver conflict. The problem is one of speed (or lack
thereof!). hdparm -t reports between 750 Kbits/s 1 Mbit/s depending on it's
mood (or so it appears). I have tested three different devices all of which use
different chipsets. Two cheap USB2 HDD cases and an iRiver H340. None of them
attains a transfer rate like those I can get with Windows (as best as I can
tell), and connecting the devices to one of the original USB 1.1 ports
demonstrates that they are no faster with USB2 than with 1.1.

I will gladly provide dmesg / logs etc if they will help track this down. Is it
just me, or does no-one get fast transfer rates? Kernels tested include
2.6.17.4 and 2.6.18.2.

Jon
