Apologies if this doesn't thread properly. I've not yet subscribed to the list properly (Having issues with incoming emails!) so I'm copying and pasteing from the archive!
>You should get transfers a lot faster than that. Have you checked the >system log for any sort of error messages? Yup. None there. Watching the log while connecting a device gives the impression that it is connecting as a High speed device. No errors reported. >And most importantly, are the drives mounted with the "-o sync" option? >That slows everything down tremendously. No sync enabled. I actually tried enabling it and ended up with a read speed slightly faster than without. These speeds are either way (I think... I haven't actually got a benchmark to hand for the write speed to one of the devices.). I did find this: http://kerneltrap.org/node/6933#comment-202486 To which I have posted. The OP seemed to have the same problem and coincidentally had a Via chipset. I do wonder if there isn't some issue with the chipset in terms of the Linux driver. Sadly, my experience of Kernel hacking is small enough to be immeasureable so I'm not the best person to start looking for problems in the source code. Sadly I don't have any other hardware to test it with. It's hard to find someone who will lend you a USB adaptor card so that you can test your unsupported OS against it! ;-) Jon ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys.
