Hi list, Matthias Urlichs from "bluez-utils" redirected me to this mailing list, so here's my story:
I'm using a "Logitech diNovo Laser" desktop under both Linux and Windows XP and it works quite well. (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/AT/EN,CRID=2158,CONTENTID=10777) But when I tried to pair another Bluetooth device with my PC under Linux, I realized that the dongle wasn't recognized as a Bluetooth device and ran in "USB hub mode" instead, allowing me to use mouse and keyboard transparently but preventing me from using it with other Bluetooth devices. I filed a bug for bluez-utils at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bluez-utils/+bug/83484 but Matthias Urlichs told me that this is not a bug in "bluez utils" and there might be some "USB driver magic" necessary to use the Bluetooth capabilities. He was right about that: After uninstalling the "Logitech SetPoint" software under WinXP, the bluetooth device vanished from the hardware manager and the bluetooth stack found no device. Mouse and Keyboard continued working though. Has anyone an idea on how to make this work under Linux? I'm using Ubuntu 6.10 on my desktop PC (but I also have a Debian Etch Server standing right next to me). More information can be found at the bug ticket at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bluez-utils/+bug/83484 Yours faithfully, Raphael Charwot P.S.: Quote from Matthias Urlichs eMail: > I assume that it requires a special driver / initialization program > under Windows, and that if you remove that driver, it reverts to a > "normal" keyboard+mouse interface. > > The next step would probably be to find out whatever special magic that > driver or program does. That's an exercise I can't help with, though. :-( > > Tracing USB stuff under Windows in order to reverse engineer Linux > drivers is a not uncommon art form, though, so I hope you find somebody > to help.
