udev? I'm afraid I don't know much about it.

I tried loading the scsi modules from the .../drivers/scsi
directory. modprobe ./ide-scsi.ko and got this reply:
FATAL: Module ./ide_scsi.ko not found. This also happens
with the usb modules. The modules are there but...????

In /lib/modules/2.6.21.5/kernel/drivers/usb...
/core|host|input|storage I have:
usbcore.ko ehci-hcd.ko ohci-hcd.ko uhci-hcd.ko usbhid.ko
usbkbd.ko usbmouse.ko libusual.ko and usb-storage.ko
