The problem is that there is a bug in the current backport that doesn't
allow the usbdevfs to be seen properly. There have been some patches
here on the list that have fixed this, if you want to look back through
the archives (sorry, but I don't have the pointers to them right now.)
I also think that there were some problems with the usb-storage driver
in the backport, preventing things like your Zip driver from working
properly. Again, someone provided a patch (I think it's in the same
patch as above).
