Hm, I think I'm going to run into this problem with usbview a bunch real
soon now. Just because the device shows up in USBView, does NOT mean
that it is recognized by the kernel, or that the driver is loaded for
the device. All it means is that USBView can see its strings describing
itself (most all usb devices contain strings saying the manufacturer and
device type, that's what USBView uses to describe the device in it's
tree view.)

I think it's time to make a mod to USBView to let the user know that the
device currently doesn't have a driver attached to it...

Try compiling the usb-storage module (as well as enabling scsi support
which is required for usb-storage) and see what happens then.
