Thanks for the answer.
The question it begs is can we rely on the usbdevfs being mounted?
It also begs a second question: why should this functionality be
limited to USB? One might imagine that one could have similar behavior
on other busses (e.g. PCMCIA, Firewire). Is this a feature that should
be generic to Linux, (I suspect so), or specific to USB?
