When I was using the Kaweth 0.2 driver patched to recognize a 3Com network
device, I had to experiment with the order of boot, plug in device, and load
kaweth module. Sometimes the device would be recognized and the firmware
would download but the startup would fail, as it is failing for you.
Possible orders:
1. Boot without device, insmod module manually, plug in device.
2. Boot with device plugged in, insmod module manually.
3. Boot without device, plug in device, insmod module manually.
(Can't remember which of these actually worked :^) )
