Indeed.  Plus the fact that you need parallelised software or a method of
running something simultaniously in parts on multiple machines.  In my case
I have spent about $70.00 for the equivalent of a 1.35GHz computer, which I
consider good value :-)

For old boxen, yes.  It really comes down to "What are they capable of
running?"

Exactly.  You are utilising CPU cycles on machines other than the one you
are sitting at, and you can get better performance for doing so.
