A friend of mine, Austin Ellis, owns Global PC here in ChCh. They are mainly involved in hardware sales but are MS supporters mainly because that's all they get asked for and they pay the MS tax on their systems most of the time anyway, even if they wanted to sell OS-less ones. Plus, they lose their bulk buying discount if they support any OS other than an MS one. I was having a drink with him last night and we talked Linux for about an hour. He is pretty involved in the PC world here in ChCh and NZ but is utterly clueless when it comes to Linux. He is setting up a PC running Linux to act as a firewall this week. This will be his first dabbling with the OS. He said that in the last 6 months only 1 customer he can recall has asked anything about Linux. Clearly we have work to do...

Hopefully that will be mid next week, and then we can do the press release late next week. Give us a month of lead time in terms of publicity.Advertising..The press release, BSE I imagine will be good, Public notices in local papers, newsletters around the Uni and polytech. (I've got a contact at the Polytech IT dept)All suggestions more than welcome, and offers of free 30 second TV slots even more so :-).Cheers, Chris Hellyar.
Looks great. Do we want to include any recommendations in the press release as to what needs to be done prior to the installfest if people want Linux/a dual boot setup installed on their machine? By the way, what is the official CLUG website nowadays (so I can point interested parties there)?? Is the installfest going to be advertised on the site? What other advertising avenues are going to be employed to spread the word?? Can any on the list help in the advertising efforts in any way?
