Hi guys, I've attempted to do an NFS install this evening to upgrade one of my machines. And I've had problems...
Basically the NFS install bummed out several times. No problem, I thought, I'll just do it the hard way. I borrowed a floppy & cdrom drive out of another machine so I could install locally. But I couldn't unmount the cd from my server to eject it. Sh*t. umount complains about the drive being busy (ie a process is using it). umount -f also complains. nfsd won't listen to signals. I've also tried killing off various other nfs-related processes (rpc.portmap, rpc.mountd) with no success. I ended up getting the disc out by shoving a paperclip into the emergency eject hole. I got desperate and sent an IDE reset command using hdparm, no success. Does anyone have any ideas that don't involve rebooting the machine? I don't think I've ever had a smooth install :) The Slackware 8.0 install script is a bit dodgy on an 8Mb 486-66... Cheers, - Dave http://www.digistar.com/~dmann/ (out of date)
