Mainly for the guy who's been trying to get X working in multihead... I had a fiddle with my setup last night and got it going without too much trouble. KDE, Gnome and Enlightenment all work with Xinerama.
I've uploaded my XF86Config as another example for your perusal: http://www.digistar.com/~dmann/temp/XF86Config-dm In the "ServerLayout" section, the "Screen1" line looks complicated because I wanted to line up my monitors along the bottom. X seems to assume that the top of each monitor is lined up. The numbers there work out from the left desktop at 1600x1200, and the right at 1024x768, and the bottom of each screen at the same physical height off the desk. I had to make up the HorizSync/VertRefresh numbers for my second monitor as X had picked it up as a generic VGA monitor (its really a Digital brand 15"), and the screen does not have the ratings printed on the back. If you need to know how to approximate the required number for HorizScan let me know. I don't know if there's any other way to change the refresh rate other than hacking XF86Config by hand (other distros probably have scripts). I settled on Enlightenment for my wm; by default its the least windows- looking of the three I listed above. Gnome's not too bad but I don't like KDE. I was nearly in heaven when I found the Aqua theme for Enlightenment... time to start saving for a G4, I think :) Cheers, - Dave http://www.digistar.com/~dmann/ (out of date)
