Hi ho,
I have a machine within my abode that is currently running RH7.1, now I have installed into this little beasty (cause it ain't fast 166) a PCI serial & parallel port card procured from the "that's where you go" black and yellow store. I made the purchase cause the box has a Linux penguin logo and the words "Ready for" printed on it. The nice instructions have a whole bunch of suggestions for getting it to work under some other OS's but the README for Linux only talks about kernel 2.0.xx/2.2.xx I have tried all these suggestions and trolled around on google; checked the parport_pc archive and looked at the list of supported cards on the parport_pc maintainers site.......its listed there. However, even if I add it to my modules.conf on my custom 2.4.18 kernel when I attempt to access the port it reports "Device is busy" yada, yada......, If I don't add it to the modules.conf as suggested by parport.txt because PCI devices are detected automagically then its not found and when accessing the port the response is "No port at address....." So, has, can anyone shed some light on my problem OR can someone provide some CD-R's of a later version of RH OR do I rip linux off and revert to the "OS of unmentionable name...." If someone can provide me with CD-R's tonight, I can collect from anywhere in Christchurch after 1900hrs(7:00pm) tonight, I need to demonstrate some simple devices tomorrow, so that's why I need a solution tonight. If this appears all as garbage to you, do not panic.......message will self-destruct in 5....4....3 regards, Andrew
