We have three registrations for Wednesdays meeting. With a highly possible
forth machine. Those registered have indicated they are happy for me to
paste their requirments into this email so we all know what they would like
done. Are we going to sort out who their trouble shooting 'buddy' is going
to be before the meeting and if so do we have volenteers?

We still have room for more linux boxes for our problems workshop evening.
Please register by emailing me at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi,
I would like to get some technical assistance with my computer at the next
weeks clug meeting.
I am running Mandrake 8.2 with the following problems
no sound
AMR modem that is not recognised
accelerated graphics working ???
I have been given some advice via the list, without success.
I have downloaded some linux packages for these devices, and also an updated
kernel patch, but I don't seem to be able to get these to install as per the
instructions.

Cheers

Hi,
I would like to bring along my Toshiba 2500CDS laptop upon which I have
installed a Mandrake distribution (basically Red Hat) kernel version
2.2.?? (I can't remember - I don't have it with me right now - i'll make
sure I bring everything along).

I have this up an running, no major headaches (I sorted out sound card
and display problems). I am after some general pointers regarding system
maintenance, security options etc 'before' I go ahead and plug it in to
the www. I am looking to buy a PCMCIA card for it and would like some
advice in that area as well. (Maybe someone has one for sale / trade - I
have so much computer stuff, I'd prefer trade) :0)

Thirdly... (essentially part of the first question) I would like to
clean up the installation to get it running as smoothly and quickly as
possible. It only has 32Mb of memory and a P166MMX processor so the
cleaner the whole thing is the better.

I use KDE GUI but during the install process chose all available from
the disk. Having tried these all out I have decided to stick to KDE
(unless someone can show me something I haven't tried) so I need to
ditch unwanted clutter. I am not that certain I won't crap it up by
ditching something important (I've looked through RPM and config etc...
I just need that all important second opinion...)

This will be my first meeting so I don't want to jump straight in taking
up time if others (longer standing) have issues to deal with. Obviously
a laptop doesn't take up much room and there are always the 'laptop'
issues that don't arise on desktops.

Please let me know if it is ok for me to bring it along.

Thanks

Alan

Hi,

I have a PC I have already set up as a home server but would like to:

- configure Samba for domain logons for W2K workstations

- set up a modem for providing access to the internet for both W2K and Linux
workstations complete with fire wall

- install/configure Apache for MySQL / PHP / ModPerl

The machine is a 350MHz AMD K6, 256MB RAM with two hard disks (1.6GB and a
40GB).

Should I also bring the workstation (dual boot RH7.3 and Windows XP)?
