I'm guesssing your ram is broken and the call to spamassassin is taking it over into the broken zone.
BTW spamassassin is best run as the spamd/spamc combination - are you doing this? it lowers overhead considerably. In an experiment I did it took half the time to run checks with the spamd/spamc combo than it did with spamassassin.
