I am sure that Webmin is what you're after, not some secure-shell based complexity that Im sure others would prefer ;-) . (Although parts of Webmin can be complicated, as is the nature of Linux :-) Webmin can handle administration of heaps of services including mail/ftp/news/dns/filesharing servers.
I have used SWAT many times before and have found it bungles conf files (its own generated ones, I'm not feeding it a populated conf file) resulting in corrupted entries, and missing entries for options you selected. It also has a tendency to remove lines of configuration entirely for no reason. in spite of Webmin being a useful tool, I highly recommend editing your Samba config file by hand, if you're using Samba, as it is the easiest way to ensure the options you want are being put into effect. That or backup your config file everytime before running Webmin. Is it possible that you might be able to use some kind of X-Windows connectivity to make things remote-administration-able ? Im not sure how secure VNC is but that would let you at least into an X11 desktop for easier administration than a shell...
