Hi Kevin,
Double check you have the time zone correct.  When I first installed linux I 
set it at NZ-CHAT thinking it was some kind of syncing for IRC chat.  In fact 
of course it was for Chatham Island.  Also a common mistake is setting it to 
Pacific-Auckland.  This is Auckland Island!  It should be set to NZ
