Hi CLUG, I REALLY need some networking help
OVERVIEW OF PROBLEM AND LAN: My computer is upstairs and my gateway, cable modem and hub are are downstairs. I have ethernet cables running through the house (build in eg. running through the walls) and my computer and the other two computers up stairs are all connected to the hub. I have another computer which will sit right next to my main one and I want to plug it into the network. THE PROBLEM: I don't have another cable running down to my hub anywhere near my computer(s) so I cant easily plug it into the hub. I cant run cables to the hub either (so far, too messy) POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS: Open to any. One idea is that I could have another hub and plug my two computers into that hub and connect the up-link ports? It is also rather costly, unless any CLUG members will sell me a cheap 2nd hand hub? Any comments? I could also stick another NIC in one of the computers and use that as a gateway. This is messy cause both will have to be on if the other one needs the network. Any comments? Please, if you have any other solutions (especially cheap ones) please post them on the mailling list. Thanks
