It can be quite confusing with the option dash and the "polarity" of
the nice argument. I remember a colleague running cdrecord on his
heavily simulation-loaded workstation with nice -17, while he had
actually intended to un-nice it which would have been nice --17. But
since all his CDs were recorded all right, he never noticed until I
stumbled over it and asked him why he was running cdrecord with a
really "nice" priority :-)

nice (GNU sh-utils) 2.0

The nice priority will be the same for child processes.
